Another scribble and some more music

Sometimes a scribble is the best we can do in life.
I scribbled some digital ink on some digital paper again and this happened.

As once long ago, I promised to do another Art Director for a day - lemme break it down for you again.  So the little characters on 3D bases seems to be getting allot of interest.  That's good because I absolutely LOVE making them.  It's comments/twitter time.  Drop me a comment about who you'd like to see face off on the 3D cubes.

I'll pick some characters from comments or tweets sometimes next week and start on it.  Is it going to be Princess Daphne and Dirk?  Is it going to be Princess Bubblegum and the Ice King?  Is it going to be the a ninja Turtle vs. Shredder? Or are you going to recommend something totally awesome and different?

I'm artist_andrew on twitter.  https://twitter.com/#!/artist_andrew

Also, here's music.  It's allot more light hearted and video gamey.   Sorry you can't listen to this on mobile, I think it's a flash player.

It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you...

Without a dope beat to step to.

I haven't done any silhouette paintings in a while, but I was "inspired"/tricked by an email from a fake shirt mfg/art director and did some artwork last week.  He evaporated as was expected, so I'mma post this up.

Kinda glad the dude bugged me or I wouldn't have gotten back into it for a little while.  That's lemonade from lemons, right?

When life gives you art director lemons, make art lemonade.
And it's been some time since I've thrown up any tracks for you to listen to.  "Thrown up" heh.  Yeeeeaaaaaarrrrrgggggh.

It's fakebit dubstep.  Sounds real good if you like 8bit music. And me? I dig it.

Back in black silhouette

It seems like every time I do a new one of these I've got to apologize for being rusty. Truth is that I've been avoiding certain art pieces with other art pieces. Such is the case, all the pin ups on this blog as of late has been in the way of doing more silhouettes which I really missed doing. So I rocked out one of these last night.

And ya, I'm rusty as hell.
edit: i forgot to mention that this piece was heavily inspired by han solo trapped in carbonite. Can't you tell?

I may as well post the tracks that inspired it.

Both Glitch mob tracks:

Enjoy the music and the art.

on and off and on and off again

I like to bounce back between the heavily rendered stuff and the flat silhouettes. It's a nice balance. It's tiring painting in all the cast shadows, highlights, surface materials etc, so I think it helps to do exactly the opposite for a while.

That's when you know it's time to put on a good track and sketch one of these:

The track is called Fake Blood :: Medieval and it's kinda hot, if you're speakers/headphones are.

The fadeout kinda sucks, so here's a track to make up for it.

Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner :: Animal Rights (Houserocka Bootleg)

now to see if I can get this mother onto FakeBook.

Daft Punk x Mega Man x &Rew.

Daft Punk x Mega Man x &Rew =

I had to. They're just too cool.

And now for some megaman music. I think 2 is the alleged classic for music, but I prefer 3. Here are a few tracks. I don't expect anyone who didn't grow up with this to love it, buuuuuut try it and maybe you'll be inspired?

When I'm a werewolf, I dream I'm a human.

I'm not going to dedicate a post to music only, because that's not what I do. I'm a visual artist, I draw. And my blog? It's a public diary-like place I put random musings about my art + some of the music I dig (recently), but I'm tempted to just post about cocoRosie.

CocoRosie is awesome enough to dedicate a post on a visual art blog to.

I'm not going to do that though. Do you know why? Because I have pictures from Eric Maréchal.

More hit and run artwork.

But please, by all means, listen to this track, cause it's rad, but not as rad if you don't have good headphones.

I've seen this group live and they are "hot to death". Seriously creative and creepy cool looking as one of them strips clothes off to reveal faux tattoo coverall like leotards and weird intentional messed up haircuts. Good show. Try the track. I like their mellow stuff too.

Thanks Eric. You're dope, but you know that.

Prototype man

Protoman.

I do believe this m_ther f_cker was supposed to be the first megaman. He was Dr. Light's unstable prototype. Megaman's older brother if you will.
A few things about protoman according to me.

1. I never really liked him. He was a prick. He'd bounce in talk shit and bail. Not cool.
2. He looked like he had a pony tail and shades. Ok - well, I don't want to offend all you men with blonde ponytails and shades and helmets... but it's not a good combo. It reinforces number one item - the prick thing.
3. How could you go from a prototype with a shield to not-a-shield? Also, with robots, why not make the chest out of the same material as a shield, thus making the shield redundant but the protection integrated?

I made this proto look a little darker, but I left the scarf. While not altogether too cool, I got rid of the damned shield but gave him an itty bitty forearm thing. Sure, you can use that as a shield. You're a robot, block with precision dammit.

Also, the chest dial is sort of a zero with a line through it, like how I draw a zero, cause unit 0 is the first in a series usually. His glasses are in a cross shape, cause he always comes to save the day, plus he's going to be red and white like an ambulance.

I never got too far into the lore but I think he's an anti hero. Also his whistle was not as cool as a theme could be mind you. If I wrote music I'd do something more interesting. Maybe something like this:

What? What the f_ck? Aesop Rock, the theme to a megaman anti-hero? Well, why the f_ck not?

werd.
peace,

sink your claws in

This song is a couple years old and a couple years rad. barbara morgenstern is a german electro-pop musician who is very liberal in her music. it's obvious that she's making tracks that she feels passion in making and she doesn't really give a fuck what you or i think. that's good, that way the art is pure. you know?

her live music is so dope.

i want to paint while she plays music and just really tear some sh_t up. it's the kind of music that makes me want to break glass with my art. that's the best way I can put it. and it's not really that high octane, it's just the spirit.

if you want the full experience you'll have to paint to one of her albums drunk off scotch. if you come and find me, i'll pour you the glass and you can pick out the album.

The finished job.

Here are pics of the completed piece.

And a nother mario track to explode Trixi's ears! (^__^)

¿Much easier to listen to, right? And hey, it's also mario related. Woot.

That project was cool - now it's on to a few other things including preparing some art to send to a few people from the last AD4AD and some Holiday cards.

Music to the blog

I've been wanting to add music to his blog for a while. Music is as important to me as almost any other thing. I never paint without it on. And you have to set the mood for your piece! Otherwise you may be sending your brain conflicting signals.

At any rate, here's to adding music. This track is to go with the sudden Mario theme that's poped up on the blog. It's Hip Tanaka's Super Mario Land. I wanted to use a track that you probably don't know, but it's still cool. 8bit - gameboy music at that.

Sorry for the mini ad that pops up on the player, but it's a free player. Not too anyoying. Oh - yah, and watch out - the track is a LITTLE LOUD.
