Moo mini cards: Final Fight arcade/snes

Not sure how many of you remember this game, but it's awesome. I've never paid tribute to it, so it's long overdue, but Final Fight was a genre defining game at the time (well that or double dragon), but I think people still may refer to games like this as "Final Fight" style.  Or maybe Streets of Rage, but who's counting.

Still rad.

Haggar from Final Fight squares off against Poison.

I heart Final Fight.
¿Can you tell that he's based on Jesse Ventura?  Cause I think he was totally supposed to be.  A cross between him and Zangief really.  Super dope.  He's made cameos in lots of stuff since as has poison.  There's some weird history about her, but I'll let you find out that stuff for yourself. (O . O)

These mini art bits are so fun to do, I think all of you artists should take a stab. SRSLY.

GLHF,

Moo mini cards: Kirby your enthusiam.

Wakka wakka... That's right folk. Kirby.  It's on.

Is there any other marshmallow shaped hero this cool?  I surmise that there is not.

Kirby, the old-school NES hero is back on the warpath.

He's really gonna f_ck that tree up.  That's what you get for being nature! DIE.
Why don't you make like a tree and LEAFVE!

More to come if/when I ever have time.

cheers,

Moo mini cards: Contra motherf_cker. Yes. Contra.

Nes Contra is the sh_t.  If you say otherwise, why don't you come over to hang out with me SO I CAN BREAK YOUR ARM OUT OF IT WIMPY SOCKET AND BEAT OFF YOUR FACE WITH IT.

Contra.

CONTRA!

All that oldschool nintendo cart awesomeness is so fondly remembered for a reason.  I've read all the naysayers talking about how it's nostalgia holding it together, but they can go suck a CD, because those carts are the stuff of legends.  Yah, I'm looking at you hate blogger, with my spread pointed simultaneously at your terrible articles and your ugly mug simultaneously, cause that's how we do with spread.

I'm getting the hand of the moo card drawings maybe, but maybe these first few will suck by time I get a little further down the road.

stay in school and don't do drugs,

Pacman, the way he was supposed to be!
Don't believe me? Check the side of the original arcade cabinet. The art says it all.
Want me to do a game you like? Lemme know about it.  QUIT LURKING AND POST A COMMENT ABOUT IT DAMMIT.  Srsly.

Also, do feel free to post links to your own versions or email them to me.  So far I've gotten a few in the mail box and it's totally awesome that people are getting involved.  Maybe I'll do a page of your art to share with the world.

Moo-tivational Concept.

I'm going to make some Moo Mini cards

A guy from Moo contacted me to say that he would trade me some free product for some representation on my blog.

Now, if you're like me, you hate being solicited for anything at all... EXCEPT REALLY COOL STUFF.  So I'm going to be straight up with you that moo cards are actually really awesome and don't need endorsement TBH.  I've never gotten them made and I need cards though, but instead of making business cards, I want to miniature art pieces.

Whether or not you make some, I have an awesome idea in mind, so let's get to it.

I want to do miniature drawings on side-scroller video game levels.  Classic stuff, you know, that's been done to death, but at least this time, I will be doing them to death tiny and in a new way.

The cards are double sided, so I might switch up the design on the backside, so that it's one scene on one side and something a little different on the back.

Then when it's done I want to send a set to people who have participated or reblog or tweet/retweet about it.  I don't really know how to do that, but it's going to be an awesome art giveaway of EPIC tiny proportions.  ¿Amirite?

Oh yah - I also want you to participate and share your stuff.  I've gotten a few emails from people following this site lately and it's really cool to see what they do and how they interpret some of my art.  So do feel free to share with me.

Here's a template to get you started:

Here's a blank template for you to use.  I'm painting these much bigger than the cards will come out, so they have detail, but not so detailed that it looks like a blur when I'm all done.  It's a balance.  Also since there are so many to do, I'm sure I'll get better by the end.

There will be around 40 images to make, so I'd better get started.

Here's Super Mario Brothers from the NES.  If you don't know, you must be like....5 years old. :-|

Here's an up-close shot.  The art will not be represented this way, but it's fun to noodle some detail at this scale.
I paint up close but constantly zoom out to see if everything reads well.

This is how the moo card should look in the end, give or take a cm.
It's important to always look at your art at the size which it will be viewed.
If you paint to closely to your piece you may lose perspective.

¿Super Moorio Bros. anybody?

Skull grrrrrl Filia

I took liberties on painting a skull girls character called Filia and did a paint sketch this evening.

One of the comments in the last post was asking about a game called Skull Girls and I haven't tried it but I looked it up.  It looks like indie spirit with allot of production value.  Props to the creators.  It's all about thigh highs and weird combos.  You've seen my art, this is no far cry from what I like to paint.  I am well aware that Filia doesn't really look like this, but... who's writing a blog post and doesn't give a f_ck?

I'm working on another giant monstrosity of an art piece, so I don't have time to realize anything fully except *it* for a while.  Rest assured that if you like 80s movies as much as I do (especially around the year 1988) you'll love what I've got cooking.  Yes, it's art crack for the late 80s nerd.

werd.

I painted this tonight.
I don't have time to do anything quite as OCD as I usually paint, but I wanted to tackle the character.

Also also,  I can't believe more people didn't drop ideas in the suggestion box for the last post. My g_d internet, are blogs that flash in the pan these days!  Well, I'mma put down some good pixels and see if I can't generate more interest next time. And to all you peeps who email me with things you'd like to see me paint - shame on you for missing a golden opportunity.  I oughta wip you with the mouse you came in on!

If you ordered prints over the last week and a half, I now have shipping material and they'll be going out soon.  Thanks so much for the orders - I will email you after I've put them in the post.

enjoy the art and hope to see you around!

Portal 2 Chell pin up, the cheese cake isn't a lie.

Portal 2 was awesome. Actually, it still IS awesome. So go buy it if you haven't. It's puzzles plus clever humor, not that toilet humor that promulgated in most modern games! Speaking of bad taste, here's a pin up I made of the main character, Chell, along with her companion cube.

Yes, she's got booty shorts. Yes her head is ginormous. But is there really a problem with that? No. There isn't.

But seriously, if you haven't done the portal thing, it's short(ish) and rewarding.

Otherwise you'll miss out on all the internet memes, like "The cake is a lie." and a bunch of stuff about lemons and Cave Johnson. You'll see.

case closed.

Everything but the girl

Sometimes I do smart things. Today, I did 'a smart things'. I recycled the BG from the last painting, but moved stuff around so it would look different. I just need to do the giant gashes on the plane. Plus I mixed up the palette so that it would be more unique.

oh ya - and I added a magical boomerang on the side thurr, sorta like the bobomb on the last piece.

everything is done but the pinup hottie, so now for the 'good' part.

cheers,
&

Whatever you do, don't look down.

...And don't stop. Momentum is really hard to gain.

Over and out,
&!

AD4AD2.0 - Noseart Mashup Remix

Ok, now that I've got a reasonably wacky title out of the way, to the art.
This one is Mida based, or maybe I'll go with princess Zelda, but she gets all the love and I'm kinda doing the B-siders with Daisy and Luigi and all. The cool thing about Midna is that she has a Ganon looking color palette with the green pale blue and orange. It could look really cool I think, although a little off.

I've got the Zelda series refs on there. Slashes instead of bullet holes. Fairy in a bottle instead of 1-up, etc.

I think it will work. I just have to decide which damned version to go with. Hoody or no hoody. Sticking her tongue out or not. I'm thinking number 2, but the top one is sort of unique and out of character, which is a cool aspect.

Either way, I've got to jump on this quick so I can get it done and out. I want to print a set of 2 cards and I can't do that if only one card is finished!

bee seeing you.

Mario/ Princess Daisy Pin up AD4AD4: Closed Case.

Phew, what do you know, I DID finish it in time after all. I made Princess Daisy just about as hot as I could make her.

Gotta do a backside and then I'm thinking Samus or Zelda or something next week. I suppose I need to have a pair of cards to print! Or what's another nintendo game vixen that needs to TLC?

Thanks for the concept ZG.

be seeing you,
&Rew.

I'm up I'm up!

And I put a little time into the piece. This went down so quick it kinda makes me want to do a few more like it.

Of course, it's always easier said than done.

Expect the final up after lunch sometime. Then I guess I need to decide if I'm going to do another or send this one straight off to the printer to make postcards. Then ask all you peeps for addresses if you'd like me to send you one.

AHHH - but of course, I forgot about the backside! I still need to do art for that!

cheers,
&.

Just in the nick of time

I got home from dinner and had just enough time to do this before I pass out to some Netflix bullsh_t.

¿Finish her off tomorrow?

If you're not with me, you're against me.

out,
&Rew.

Shaded

Ok. I don't always do a B/W shaded version but I wanted to for this one to get the values right. So the main character is now rendered. On to the BG later on. I'll try to get her all colored up by the end of the evening. (crosses fingers)

&.

Super minor tweaks

I scaled to image to fit on a card, added a few little things while I'm making lunch.

After lunch I'll hit up the final paints and see if I can't get this painting nailed, but don't expect an update for a long while when I go to finals!

cheers,
&.

Flats

You know the drill.

Make shapes.
Fill em in.
Cross your fingers and hope it 'aint ugly.

Give 'em hell, Daisy

Be seeing you,

AD4AD4: Ok.. let's get started (and promptly finished)

Art director for a day number 4 is on!

I picked an email entry. It took me so long because secretly I wanted to do ALL the choices. Thanks to all you guys for emailing me or posting choices. I really appreciate the participation.

So on to the art. I wanted to finish THIS WEEK. Which means til Sunday, but there's no way that will happen, will it? Shoot - maybe!

So the one I picked is "Create some old WWII airplane nose art. The pinup stuff that is kind of racy. Use a character or theme from a video game for the girl and stickers on the plane, and give her s slogan on the side."

Soooo I really love this idea. Looking at the ref, I have it all figured out. Here's a plane vanilla sketch. I'm going to spend the next 30 minutes making it look like it's from mario brothers. We'll see what happens. I'm goign to try to get it all the way through flats and to some of the final paints by noon.

cheers.

New art director for a day. OMFG

Ok peeps. I want to run another art director for a day, cause I haven't in forever, and I really REALLY loved those.

Same deal as usual.

¿whooowhat? Post your idea in the comments section of this post or email me. My email is in the profile section of the block on the side there (under email). - if you email me, title the email "I wanna be the Art Director" Only send one idea and make sure it's follows the theme. I will pick my fave to get illustrated.

¿The theme? Well, I love cult movies with interesting character (like labyrinth, 5th element, 4tc), monsters, desert foods, and video games. I want to do an illustration with cute girlies, so keep that in mind too.

¿The deadline? I'll take ideas until this weekend.

I'll likely do a postcard or a print at the end of this and I'm probably going to use the illustration for the cover of a postcard book I want to print and sell. (some of you have asked me about this and I have a list of folks who I've mentioned it to at the Seattle con).

look at the art director for a day tag if you're confused right now. Reading through all those will clear your poor poor head. (^__^)

be seeing you,
&Rew.
