i always liked that song when i was young. my dad would be playing it in the garage on his 8-track player and i had no idea what it meant... but i would bob my head to it and think - what does it mean to take a walk on the wild side? and where exactly is that side?

this isn't the wildest side of art, but i'd like to think that it isn't the most tame side either.

comic con was awesome for a couple hours, but then the nerd smells and walking started to get to me and i got cranky and bored and stop wandering around. it's cool to see all the artists i have admired from afar in person. it was cool to meet you guys and girls and i had a great time. i will return tomorrow for one last look at all the cool toys and dope art. the san diego comic come is the scratch for that inspiration itch that i need every summer.

sushi on the rocks

i had a metric ton of great sushi last night. it didn't necessarily inspire this piece of art, but it did inspire me to paint a girl in a cocktail dress holding a glass up. the painting at the restaurant (of a girl in a cocktail dress) had seven fingers (one of the employees pointed out). seven fingers total is possible i suppose, but she had them on one hand.

if you're in la jolla, next to "the spot" and "jose's courtroom" - go into Sushi on the Rock II - look at the painting, have a couple rolls by the chef Robert, and take a shot of sake or two.

a shot of sake sounds so crude, there has to be a better word for that...

unfinished business

today was a long day, but i beat the buzzer. i still have 40 minutes to spare, and this piece still needs some work, but i'll just secretly update it tomorrow morning and later in the day. it will work for now.

today was like a field trip. i got to visit a printing press. i'm getting some posters printed, and i cna't show them right now, cause it would ruin the opening day they'll be showing at, but rest assured that i'll put it online to see once i am allowed to. i spent almost an entire month working on one piece. i'm really hoping it was worth the time spent. i certainly learned allot, so it wasn't a loss for that reason alone.

Here's a little devil character to match this post-it pet i put up a while ago. the girl is Maddi - my coworker's daughter, and the boy one is based on Cayce, his son. My coworker's wife wanted me to make him a little devil because i'm told he's rambunctious... or maybe it's just to balance the sweetness of their little daughter.

at any rate, for me - any reason to paint is a great reason to paint.
