Sporelings

I spent part of my weekend playing with the spore creature creator. It's pretty cool. You can do about a million thing with it, though i don't like how you can only make symmetrical creatures. I could have also used fur.

It's like playing with Meta balls from old software packages. You pretty much HAVE to make mouths and eyes on them too, and i like little slits or small mouths instead of the gummy lippy jaw heavy choices you have in the creator program. It's a good way to exercise creativity though.

There's a feature to make avatars animations in it, so i did these ones:

we all have our crutches

tonight i listened to some jazz.

i was driving home on the freeway when the car in front of me stopped so hard that it looked like his car was chained to a mountain. i pressed the brakes too and came to a gentle stop inches away from her bumper and quickly looked in the rear view to see a van careening towards me little silver car.

both before i starting cursing expletives at the top of my lungs and after i had peed myself i had a few magical thoughts spark in my brain. the car didn't hit me, instead i gassed the car a bit and steered into the shoulder, but i still got to have those life flashing images. you know the ones, the ones you get before the boulder smashes your head - about your first jump off the high dive or the time you ate oreo cookies until you could only see in black and white or the time you punched your sister in the back of the head for kocking down your sand castle and then your dad spanked the white offa yer ass for doin it... those thoughts.

it was really cool to live.

i thought of doing epic things when i got home like solving world peace or ending the credit crisis all by myself... then i remembered, i'm just artist and all i can do is paint.

and so i did just that.

high energy post-it pets

it's been like a decade since i've posted a post-it pet. i've almost dammed near forgotten how to make them... except for the fact that there aren't really any rules, so that makes it pretty easy to do one after all. mostly i blame being busy on not doing any art for no reason at all.

i think i mentioned it in the past, but these are kinda like art push-ups.

enjoy it. i'll try to make more in the future unless my (A.) i'm so inundated with work that my hand breaks off or 2.) if after i go to sleep in a moment, i don't wake up.

cheers,

F.O.B.

i recently designed a simple logo for "fresh only bakery", which is a Pete Wentz thing.
-link-

it looks like this:

it looks like this on Pete dressed as a crazy baker:
They're not for sale, it's just P.R. thing and he's giving them away in super limited quantities around the states. it's good to see my art in photos but funny to see them in tabloid style mad baker paparazzi attacks.

red white and black

i had just enough time to listen to the back to the future soundtrack tonight. what better to do than paint a picture while listening to music?

she's no flux capacitor, but she'll do for now.

this is what i really look like. *wink wink*

ok ok, so it's really just me painting over my head to be funny.

this was a pic of me at gallery 1988 next to my piece.

Andrew Speers over at old man musings took the pic at the Crazy4Cult 2 show. he's a pretty cool cat who's into all things art/game/figure. i think people like andrew and i would have been called nerds 20 years ago, but now we're just... well... humans. (^__^) Greetz to all you fellow bloggers who are woulda been nerds. If you aint never used a 1200 baud modem and don't know what it was like before z-modem resumable downloading came out or switching pins to config a modem, then i'm still more nerdy than you. ;-)

the fact that i spell my name with an ampersand, even in public, makes me pretty friggin nerdy too.

be seeing you,
&Rew.

If you want to order one of those posters, please do! They're available here:

if enough of them sell, maybe it'll aford me enough time to make a sequel.

phantom of the basement

I illustrated a story for a little indy magazine that gets printed once in a while. the story was about a girl who at eleven decided to put on a Phantom of the Opera show in her basement with just one of her friends. They end up hating each other because she's so demanding.

I watched the movie and was surprised at how bad it was. it was amazingly bad. then i went to the play in San Diego a few weeks ago and it was really really good. if you want to see a phantom, don't watch one in your basement, don't watch one on the T.V. - do go see it on a stage though. the music is really good and some of the tricks they may pull up on stage are worth the price of admission.

here's the piece:

i'll post a link to the story if it goes online.
