messge in a bottle - andrew

i discovered that i managed to lose this original post. it was something about the fact that i was about to go on a blind date as a wingman for a friend and that you'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out how it went.

the results are in, but i'm going to psot that in a moment.

for now - here's "davina" (it's a working title) but if you get it, it makes perfect sense.

i've tried-david hong

at least you can give me credit for that andrew..
see you next tuesday i am off to wilderness with my daughter.

call before you come - andrew

my friend rachel was supposed to stop by tonight.

she works at a gallery in downtown san diego where i purchased some art recently.

she was scheduled for nine - to come by and bring my piece. nine o'clock came and left. no call, no ring at the door.
nine thirty - no rachel.
ten - no rachel.
even as you read this very message, i would be willing to bet : no rachel.

this is fine as i would have expected as much. she flakes ten out of eleven times, but i am really missing my new art right now and while i would love to shoot a photo of it and post for all to see - i cannot photograph what i cannot see.

thanks, rachel, i am now hungry and artless.

-- off to the local mexican shop for my usual. maybe i'll com back and paint my burrito.

this is "starvard" and the name may have something to do with the fact that i'm starving and i like stars.

one thing about photoshop is that you can use it and then go to sleep instantly.

but if there was a mess to clean up, i would still go to sleep instantly.

i'm a little tired, but harvey birdman is on cartoon network.

think before you speak - andrew

my dad used to say "don't let your MOUTH get your ASS in trouble." he would emphasize the word "mouth" and then emphasize the word "ass" even more.

he said it so often that i am sure it must be important.

goodnight and good luck - andrew

i just ate at olive garden.

appetizer with three choices - breaded meat in ravioli form, mozzarella sticks, calamari, tokyo tea, soup, three breadsticks, and the "tour of italy" inclusive of lasagna, fettuccini alfredo, and chicken parmesan.... and then something called chocolate lasagna cake.

¿have you ever eaten so much that you actually felt like you were sinning?

i appologize to whomever i need to appologize. i don't think this will happen again for a long while. this is me being absoulutely sincere.

excuse me while i slip into a coma.

read between the lines - andrew

i went to a gym tonight to try to run my heart back into shape.

there was a woman on a stationary bicycle in front of my treadmill; she was reading a book while peddling at around 6 miles per hour.

i remember trying to read while working out once. it was the kind of disaster that only happens once or perhaps twice in your life - like the time you tried to drive and eat a bowl of cereal that ended up in your lap. (admittedly i brought cookie crisp into a lumina once).

the woman was on page 47 when i started watching at two munites. by the time she was done riding the bike for 18 minutes, she was on page 49. i secretly wondered if she was proud of herself for managing time so wisely. she managed to burn eleven calories and read three pages - incredible. one page was even the chapter start. you know, the page that has one or maybe two paragraphs on it tops. yah, that was one of her monumental three pages.

hurray for you, lady on the bike. if you read this, it has probably taken you ten minutes to get this far, but think of the bright side - to type in this link you probably burned half the calories you did on that bike.

¿aint technology great?

you only live twice - andrew

it's sunday night, i'm listening to some john barry done up by pargue philharmonic and also some `the killers` tracks. i reccomend barry to anyone with ears although it does sound a bit dated unless you get a good performance or recording. his themes are so strong - it's insane. i have much gratitude for all of his hard work. i reccomend "you only live twice" and pretty much almost anything from "out of africa" as far as mellow peaceful tracks.

another painted lady - "angel of sorrow" i tried the whole thing in dark ugly colors but i just couldn't take it, so this would have to be the lighter side of the angel of sorrow... and the backside at that.

¿would you rather be wise or lucky? - andrew

i just spoke to an old friend who is down on his luck. -- the kind of down on your luck that gets you thrown in jail or strung out in a sh_tty motel somewhere or living in one pair of clothes and sleeping in cars at night. -- the kind of down on your luck that calls old friends from random house phones to ask for money or a place to stay.

do yourself a favor and thank g_d if you're lucky enough or smart enough not to have to deal with any side of that situation.

there are worse things than tooth aches or traffic or long work hours or telemarketers.

oh well.

this is "the king's charriot" - a return to the more blocky simple characters which i love to throw in from time to time. they always seem to come out looking like bulldogs or lions or something.

art is never finished, it's just abandoned - andrew

i have about a million and one things to do tonight, but you know what? before i finished this post....it was a million and two. -- hooraaaaah for progress. what? you think i'm going to ditch out on practice? hell no. how is one supposed to get good without a little bit of self discipline and some practice?

when life gives you lemon's, make lemonade - andrew

today was the monthly creative meeting at work.

i worry that the artists will not contribute and that i will be uninspired by boring excuses and empty faces, save david's usual beautiful contributions.

i was pleasantly surpirsed.

a new artist brought a sketch pad and a few pens that i had bought for him to start to learn with. he was brave enough to expose his newness to a group of very talented artists, which is very inspiring. the relative difficulty for him to begin to sketch makes me look like a fool. if i have been doing this for as long as i have, surely i should be better and more productive.

today was good for perspective. next month we will see if i can keep my promise of maintaining new art specifically for this blog.

i doubt that i will survive it.

this one is called "never seen a blue sky"

may the worste moment in your future be only as bad as the best moment in your past - andrew

i went to an irish pub called dargans last night, drank guiness, and watched four musicians play irish music and dance. listening to them play made me want to include some of that type of music in my msuical library but i'm not sure what is good or how to shop for it. if you know, drop me a line. i like the soundtrack to boondock saints (the opening choral and following irish music) if that helps.

if you're in ventura, like fish and chips, and irish music - i recommend the place.

let sleeping dogs dream - andrew

this morning at some ungoldly hour probably in the threes or fours my room mate and some of my friends staggered into the house and turned on music and conversed in the living room. i fought with sleep for a while and tried to remind myself that they were trying to be considerate; it was just all the extra chemicals they had floating around in their brains that were distrubing my sleep.

it worked well enough for me not to get up and say anything rude. three nights out of seven isn't that bad.. at least they weren't disturbing my sleep after two six days a week. it could be worse, i could be one of them in ten years getting a liver transplant or relearning how to read english at a fourth grade level.

in truth, i wasn't that bothered but it's an easy target.

...until one of them starts to "sneak" into my room. he looked like a big black fucked up version of santa clause with dreadlocks and street clothes. he was smiling like he had just pulled of some majestic feat of prestidigitation. i was half naked, sitting up in bed, nodding my head like a father who has just watched his son find out how to tell his first lie.

it was a stalemate - he was frozen in my room looking at me with this sh_tty smile and i was nodding my head back and forth over and over and over again. eventually he asked me to come out and share in their adventure and i decilned as politely as i could.

i could hear my room mate quietly reprimanding him and asking him to come back to the den.

some ninety minutes later i was back to sleep having the worste dreams i have had in half a decade - the kind that make you sweat and burn calories running in your sleep.

...how i wish they would have come in and woke me up then.

sometimes you win, sometimes not - andrew

my hangover has been quelled by large amounts of cran-grape juice and wendy's processed food. i went for the fry/frosty dip combination manuever and stayed for the square double cheese without anything but lettuce.

there were two characters signing to each other at about two table's lengths apart. one smelled like he had worked out for three hours and then changed into the gym clothes he had worn weeks ago. the odor went well with the burger but not well with the frosty and fry combination; though i did not change location, the smell seemed to pass and so did the hangover.

the weather is good today and now that my brain has solidified to some degree, it is a happy day - despite looming clouds and the feeling that something much darker than the absence of light this way is coming.

this is "doctor ill". don't make me explain it to you - i don't want to lose respect.

© for president - andrew

© calle is an amazing artist. look her up right now.

i have been admiring her work for a while now and once upon a time i got to meet her in person.

i recently came into some good fortune and found myself the proud owner of a © piece of art. her style is totally unique and to top it all off - she's about as cute as a baby penguin (ok, weird analogy but it brings me to my next piece), which brings me to my next character :: "emperor pendanguin". ben padget has promised to do one and there may soon be a third artist in on the panda penguin goodness. maybe we can convince david hong to do one - or does he even read these things? well folks, we'll (i'll) certainly find out soon.

¿why do anything at all? - andrew

today david asked me why i type so much into my blogs. my answer, in the form of a question is, "why do anything at all?".

whilst driving home from work on the 5 freeway, brakelights ahead of me forced me to slow my vehicle to a near stop. a girl in a blue sedan behind me was changing lanes and as she changed lanes she seemed to speed up - exactly the opposite of everyone else on the freeway. once the sounds of skreeching brakes came to a stop along with her blue quarter ton of plastic, gasoline, and rubber, she flashed her hi-beams at me as if that would magically speed everyone back up and send us into the future.

she was wrong. we did not speed up nor gain the lost seconds from braking.

as she passed me on the right she peeked into the car to see what i looked like.

i flipped her off. it felt great. it was a beacon of road rage exemplified in my middle finger....

...life went on.

today's character is "pandguin". i listened to prokofiev while i created him. if you have not yet heard prokofiev, please seek his music out and listen to it at least one time.

&

this is a pandguin by Ben Padget. he's more james bond-like than mine and also has sidekicks. we've decided tonight to create inverse pandguins. so prepare yourself for the sheer awesomeness.

what doesn't kill you makes you sluggish - andrew

i got home from work at ten and decided to try to dust off a quick doodle before midnight so that when i slip and forget to make a post, i can say that one day two i did two of them.

my brain feel like this one looks. i called it "gum" because i'm not creative enough to come up with better after battling maya and custom shaders all day.

sleep is under rated - andrew

i woke up thirty minutes early so i could finish a character i started a while back. i wish i had that thirty back so i could go to sleep again.

it's character called "tetrishark" for a friend. i made him with a few somewhat tetris pieces. i didn't want to go 100% tetris but now that i look at it, i could have pushed that a little further. i think i'll go back tonight and do that but i've got to rush to work now.

wow blogger says it's too busy. maybe i'll just wait till later to upload the photos so i'm not late to work doing something unprodudctive like updating this blog.

first post ever - andrew

today david hong and i decided to start a dual blog. each of us promised to post something every single day for the rest of our entire god given lives... starting tomorrow

^___^

¿how typical is that for an artist?

we will always start tomorrow.

secretly i am going to start tonight. i need all the practice i can get since hong is already a genius.

ok. here is my post and it's nearly midnight on day zero. this character is called "bee bite"
